Dear IDS Students,

I hope you’re doing well and we’re reaching the midpoint of the 2024 Winter semester. As we navigate through this busy period and begin preparing for finals, I wanted to share some important updates and opportunities to support and engage you during this crucial time:

1. March Newsletter

I’d like you to please dive into our latest newsletter for a recap of recent happenings, a peek at upcoming events, and exclusive internship and volunteer opportunities. The PDF is attached to this email and on our Linktree and Instagram pages.

2. Upcoming Events:

IDSSA Gala: Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 28th, because the IDSSA end-of-year gala is back! Join us from 5:30 to 10:30 PM at the Highland Hall Event Center for an unforgettable night. It’s the perfect chance to unwind and create lasting memories with friends. Enjoy a catered buffet, masque building, games, music, and a photo booth. GDS Cafe: Don’t miss our next Global Development Studies (GDS) cafe on TODAY, March 20th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to mingle with peers, staff, and faculty from the GDS department. Join us for refreshments in Highland Hall’s Charles Brown Lounge (4th floor) from 3:00 to 4:30 PM.

3. Internship and Volunteer Opportunities:

Youth Assisting Youth: Do you live within the Toronto or York Region area? Are you between the ages of 16 and 29? If so, the Youth Assisting Youth volunteer program is perfect for you. Youth Assisting Youth establishes one-on-one peer mentoring relationships between mentors, newcomers, and at-risk youth ages 6 to 15. It provides opportunities for students to improve critical thinking skills and leadership abilities and add volunteer experience to their resume that employers will love to see.

MEDA Internships: Internships at the Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) allow its team members to contribute to eliminating global poverty. Experiences in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like MEDA can lead to a career in international development as you build skills, gain experience and make new connections. North American internship positions are typically four months long and are mostly offered from May to August each year with funding from programs such as Canada Summer Jobs.

Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Warm regards,
